The Black Forest High Road runs about 60 kilometres along the ridge from Baden-Baden to Freudenstadt, and it is made for a supercar or sports car. The road climbs to the Hornisgrinde, the highest summit of the northern Black Forest, and passes the Mummelsee, a small lake in a glacial hollow. Bends follow one another through fir forest, and the grip tightens on the wheel on the long descents as the valley opens far below. Park at the Mummelsee, let the engine cool, and take the ridge road back.
